A shift from CIM to CHIM, H. Sun, J. Frick

Computer and Human Integrated Manufacturing is outperforming both CIM and HIM according to the empirical study presented in this paper which is based on a survey and has been validated by two longitudinal case studies. The questionnaire used in the survey identifies ten criteria each for the human factors and the technology aspects and uses performance measurements on quality productivity and inventory turnover.

The paper argues that the focus in the companies with improved performance has shifted from the technology orientation to the human orientation, considering computer technology as human support rather than vice versa
